Library Classes & Workshops
Overview
Most of the instruction offered by Librarians is through Course Integrated Seminars. These are brief sessions made to an entire class at the request of an instructor. The purpose of a Course Integrated Seminar is to quickly prepare you to do better and faster research for your class using the Library catalog and electronic resources. Typically, the class meets in the Library for 1 to 2 hours.
The Library also offers a variety of video editing workshops in the Media Access Center. For information on software training classes not taught in the Library, see the Division of Information Technology training schedule. Faculty should also check the Academic Technology workshop schedule.
Where is my class meeting in the Library?
The Library has three instructional laboratories, all located on the 4th floor, where classes meet for Course Integrated Seminars. If your class is meeting in the Library, it is probably in one of these rooms.
Request a Workshop
If you are taking an upper division (or graduate) course at SF State that contains a research component, you can request that your instructor contact a subject specialist librarian for an in-class session (Course Integrated Seminar) where we will show you how to most effectively use a set of appropriate Library resources which will enable you to do better research in the subject area of your course.
We will also try to schedule a customized workshop for any group of five or more SF State students, staff, and faculty. Typical areas of instruction include: the online catalog (InvestiGator), Journal databases, Electronic Journals, and subject related tools.
Contact the Library Education Co-Coordinators for more information.
Media Access Center Workshops
