Instant Messaging the Library

Since June of 2007, Library patrons have been able to instant message a Librarian, using the free Meebo widget. For more details on this service, see the IM Reference FAQ page.

We like Meebo primarily because it doesn't require patrons to login before sending a message and because it is so easy to add it to Library web pages. Initially we put Meebo to our Contact Us and Ask a Librarian pages. Subsequently, Librarians have been adding Meebo to their research guides. For an example, see Laura Moody's Music guide. There are now plans in the works to add Meebo to other pages as well.
