Annex I Information Commons Computers

Hours

Overview

The Library Information Commons, located in Library Annex 1, is the largest computer lab at SF State. There are over 170 computers, both Windows PCs and Macs, as well as scanners and color printing. The Information Commons is open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week when classes are in session. Be sure to check the Library hours when classes are not in session before visiting Library Annex 1.

All SF State students, staff, and faculty with a valid OneCard/SF State ID are welcome to use the Library computer services. A small number of computers in Library Annex 1 can also be used by guest users.

Computer Sign-On

To use the computers in Annex 1, sit down at an available computer and sign-on with your SF State or Guest ID number. Computer use is limited to 15 minutes on the Express computers and 2 hours per day on the Research and Guest computers, but is unlimited on the General Windows PCs for SF State students, faculty and staff.

Friends of the Library, Alumni Association and other affiliated users who have registered with Circulation Services in HSS 101 are also recognized by the Sign-On system and can login using their special borrower ID number.

After Hours Access

When classes are in session the Information Commons is generally open 24 hours a day. Library Annex I is open to the public, as well as to students, faculty and staff at SF State everyday until 9pm, except when classes are not in session or during holiday and other closures. Be sure to check the current hours before visiting.

After 9pm you must have a valid SF State One Card ID or Friends of the Library ID to remain in or to enter the Information Commons.

Computers & Software

General Windows PCs

70 Windows computers with a wide range of software, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SPSS, Mathematica and ArcGIS. 8 of these computers have scanners. Generally, these computers can be used for as many hours as you like. After the initial 2 hour session, you'll be asked if you’d like additional time. During busy periods time limits may be established for these computers.

Macintosh Computers

32 iMacs with a wide range of software, including Firefox, MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite. 8 of these Macs have scanners. Generally, these computers can be used for as many hours as you like. During busy periods time limits may be established. SF State students, faculty and staff only. Sign-on with university ID number.

Research Computers

54 Windows computers with limited software, including Internet Explorer, Firefox and MS Office. Use is limited to 2 hours per day. SF State students, faculty and staff only. Sign-on with university ID number.

Express Computers

4 Windows computers set aside for quick print jobs, email and web browsing. Use is limited to 15 minutes.

Guest Computers

6 Windows computers for use by members of the public. Guest users must first register for a Guest Computer Sign-On account. Use limited to 2 hours per day. Sign-on with Guest ID number.

Printing

OneCard printing is available from all the computers. The cost is 7 cents per page for 8 1/2 x 11 paper. To add money to a OneCard, use one of the 2 VTS machines near the main entrance of Annex 1.

Color prints and large format poster printing are available at the service counter. The cost varies depending on size. More information.

Scanners

There are 8 scanners attached to the general windows pcs and 8 more attached to the iMacs.

At the service desk there is also a high-quality tabloid size scanner and a good slide/film scanner.

Video & Audio Editing

There are 4 Macintoshes with Final Cut Pro, and one Macintosh audio editing station running Pro Tools, in Library Annex I. SF State Students, faculty and staff only. Sign up at the service counter. Orientation on use of equipment available by request.
