Recommending New Items
Submit new materials
While the major portion of our book collection is acquired through selection profiles designed by librarians and maintained by our major vendors, the library welcomes suggestions for new acquisitions from faculty, students, and staff at the University.
Two Ways to Submit Requests For New Materials
- Use the REQUEST NEW BOOKS online form; please include your e-mail address or contact information.
- Media Acquisition for Faculty
IMPORTANT NOTE: Whichever method you choose, please give as much bibliographic information as possible when requesting new titles for the library (e.g., ISBN, publisher, date of publication, etc.
Recommendations are reviewed by the appropriate subject liaison librarian working in consultation with instructional faculty. If you are interested in seeing a policy statement for any particular area please contact the Library Subject Liaison responsible for the program. You may connect to the Subject Liaison lists at the top of this page.
Periodical Subscriptions
Requests for new periodicals should be forwarded to the appropriate subject liaison librarian who will evaluate the request and consult with departmental faculty. New periodical titles are considered in conjunction with existing subscriptions, the availability of full text in electronic format, and the impact of inflation on the budget. In order to provide a strong core collection of periodicals that support the curriculum, it is our goal to adjust the collection, as needed, to provide that core within our fiscal realities. We provide free access to document delivery services of articles to the SF State community to supplement our subscriptions.
