On Strike! Shut it Down! (Exhibit 1999)

Preface

This booklet was created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the student and faculty strikes at San Francisco State University and to provide a record of J. Paul Leonard Library's exhibit of the strikes' events. The Library's exhibit was part of San Francisco State University's centennial celebration.

Ten exhibit cases were used to display the strikes' activities and their related events. The cases are located in the first floor corridor of the Library.

Only a few of the many student and faculty strike related events that occurred on and off campus were contained in the exhibit. There were other events, incidents, groups and individuals the exhibit creators could not include because of space limitations.

The strike exhibit sets a framework to help you, the viewer, on your way to further research. The exhibit provides guidelines--not necessarily answers. It is important to read, to ask questions, to explore, and to find the information which helps explain in greater detail what happened.
