Library Building Project
Services During Construction (Spring 2008 - Fall 2011)
Overview
Beginning Fall 2008 all Library, Academic Technology (AT) and Center for Teaching and Faculty Development (CTFD) services will be relocated out of the Library Building for the duration of the Library Building construction project, which is scheduled to be completed in the Summer of 2011. General information is provided below. Remember to check the project website frequently for the most up-to-date information.

Library
Library services will be moved to either the HSS building, or to one of the new Library Annexes being built at the Lakeview site, near the parking garage.
Academic Technology
The faculty service desk for picking up media and AV equipment, along with the campus cable tv system, will be relocated to the basemen in Burk Hall. Online Teaching and Learning (iLearn) will move to Trailer R behind Hensill Hall.
Center for Teaching and Faculty Development (CTFD)
CTFD is moving to Burk Hall 311.
Library Collections
Print Collections
The bulk of the books and other items in the circulating collections will continue to be stored in the Library during construction. Users will request items through the Library Catalog which will then be delivered to the distribution desk in HSS 102 for review and checkout. Requested items will be available within 24 hours. Books requested through LINK+ and ILLiad will also be picked up in the HSS building.
A subset of the Periodicals, Reference and Government Publications collections will be available in one of the temporary Library Pavilions at the Lakeview site.
Government Publications
Plans for the Government Publications collection are still being finalized. Check the Government Publications web page for the most up-to-date information.
Music Scores and Parts
Music scores, parts and thematic indices will be distributed from HSS 127.
Media Collections
CDs and DVDs in the Library collection will be distributed from HSS 127. DVDs and VHS tapes owned by Academic Technology will be available for faculty only from Burk Hall, 110.
Titles in older formats, such as LPs and cassettes may be unavailable during construction.

Special Collections
Contact Special Collections & Archives for the most up-to-date information. The Labor Archives will continue to be open during construction.
Electronic Collections
Access to the Library's extensive electronic collections will be unaffected by construction. In fact, these collections are expected to grow in size and significance during this period. Currently the Library provides access to:

Service Desk
The service desk for the Reserve Book Room for students to borrow books placed on reserve will be relocated to HSS 102.
Faculty can drop off items to scan for Electronic Reserves and books to place on hard-copy reserve in HSS 108.
Electronic Reserve
Electronic Reserves will be unaffected by construction.
Media Reserve
The Media Reserves service desk will be relocated to HSS 127

Document Delivery
Service Desk
The service desk for Document Delivery Services will be relocated to HSS, 102. Print copies of articles requested through ILLiad can be picked up at this location. Whenever possible, DDS will provide a digital copy of requested articles.

Media & AV
Service Desks
The faculty service desk for picking up media and AV equipment will be relocated to the basement of Burk Hall.
The student service desk for viewing movies and listening to audio recordings will be relocated to HSS 127.

Computer Access
Computer Lab
Library Annex 1 ("The Big Bubble") will house an Information Commons consisting of over 100 computers with a full range of software installed, including Microsoft Office and the most popular Adobe Creative Suite applications. The Commons will also include high-end multimedia and video editing stations, scanners, color printing and more. The Commons, and adjacent study area, will be open extended hours when school is in session.
Laptop Checkout
Students, faculty and staff will be able to borrow a laptop for use anywhere on campus from the Media Access Center service desk in HSS 127.

Study Spaces
Extended hours study space for more than 300 people will be provided in Library Annex 1 beginning Fall 2008. These study areas will have wireless access and a greater number of power outlets than in the old Library. We are also exploring creating additional study areas elsewhere on campus.

Instruction
The Library, AT and CTFD will continue to offer instruction and workshop sessions during construction. Instructors wishing to schedule Library Course Integrated Seminars for their Fall courses should contact the appropriate Subject Librarian as early as possible to make arrangements.
